THREE IN 13...
Updated: Jul 29, 2018
Who would have thought that a simple "coffee meeting" would result in us being allowed to touch Sean O'Loughlin's hair?? We obviously didn't tell him that was the ultimate goal... we mentioned him: helping Behind a Smile get more exposure; becoming a brand rep for us and the potential of doing something with the Warriors club that we all hold very dear. Now if you've ever met Sean, you will know he doesn't say much.. at first... but six months on and well, we can't get him to shut up! So much so, we now have a talking stick at all of our meetings. Jokes aside, a massive thanks to Sean as he has helped loads with the design process; giving up his free time and has backed us 100%, even when we had doubts - so thanks for that man!
After talking with Sean, it was clear that we needed to re-think our approach about working with Wigan... we needed a secret weapon and then we met Claire (from the Warriors Foundation). Things really took off with Claire on board, she has been the driving force - supporting us in opening all of the right doors and getting us in front of the right people. She has shown real passion for our cause and has offered advice all the way through the process. The project itself has been documented by Ben - who we met through Claire. As well as filming, Ben (the dark horse) also did a lot towards the completion of the final design and was always on hand to offer his knowledge and help out in anyway he could. Without these two individuals, we wouldn't be writing about this today - so a huge thanks to both of them.
At the end of the day, we are just big kids who have followed the Warriors all our lives - being able to collab with them is definitely a massive tick off the bucket list. We hope the fans like the simple design of the tee, which offers a different style of garment to what the Warriors normally make. There is a very powerful message hidden within this
item that we have adapted in order to relate to rugby fans and players everywhere, based around the research provided by the charity mind, 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health issue in a year…if we take those figures, adapt them to the starting 13 of players who take to the pitch week in week out 3 could potentially suffer that year. This is only for one club, if you take into the account of all Super League teams, all Championship sides and the amateur game those facts are very alarming. The goal of our brand is to show people the information in different ways and to get people talking, which in turn we hope will break down the stigmas that surround these numbers and issues to help people relate to them who haven’t maybe looked at them this way before. We think the 3 in THIRTEEN message is very powerful and hope everyone else will also.
All profits made from the sale of the SOL 3 in 13 tee will be given to the Wigan Warriors Foundation, who will be starting their own Mental Health Awareness project very soon.
Thanks again to everyone who made this possible for us and we hope the fans enjoy seeing something a little bit different from us and this great club.
